kapha dosha is the energy made up of water and earth. It is the energy that is responsible for lubrication and structure. Kapha holds the cells together.  It forms the body structure of muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones.

General guidelines for Kapha

Since Kapha is inherently cold, heavy, and dense, the key to balancing Kapha is stimulation. Kaphas are so much cling to their routine, so they need the stimulation of new sights, sounds, and experiences.

Kaphas are particularly sensitive to cold, damp conditions and  benefits from heat. Exposing to  cold winter air could make person unwell easily and hence should avoid such exposures and stay warm and avoid dampness.

Take dry massage to stimulate circulation in the body

Avoid clutter from accumulating in your home. Clean your space and belongings regularly.

Exercise removes the toxins from our body that are accumulated in fats. Exercise also avoid stagnation and keeps you warm and increase your endurance.

Use warm, stimulating aromas including cloves, camphor, cinnamon, eucalyptus, juniper, and marjoram.

Go for the warm and bright colors including  yellow, orange, and red.

According to Ayurveda, it’s vital that you eat foods with a balancing influence in the dominant dosha or that’ll pacify (stabilize) that a dosha that has become aggravated or excessive.

Nutritional Guidelines for Kapha

Stress on  bitter, pungent and astringent  tastes.

Kapha need foods that  invigorate their minds while limiting their overall consumption of food

Dairy products increase the lethargy in kapha, but you can use a small amount of low fat milk or yoghurt or ghee.

Sweeteners boost kapha dosha and leads to the problems like allergies, colds, blocked sinuses. Hence, all sweeteners except honey must be avoided as honey pacifies kapha while sweeteners increases the kapha dosha.

Vary your routine as it brings excitement which will remove the lethargicness.

Avoid Iced food or Drinks

Ginger tea help stimulate slow digestion and sharpen dull taste buds. Take this on daily basis.

Beans are good for health except soybeans.

Lighter fruits such must be given preference. Fruits like apples, pomegranates, pears, apricots. Heavier fruits like bananas,  pineapples, , peaches, coconuts, melons, dates, and figs should be avoided.

Eat loads of vegetables. All vegetables are recommended but  consumption of sweet and juicy vegetables such as sweet potatoes, zucchini and tomato should be avoided.

Kapha may take all kind of pungent spices but should consume salts in limits

Reduce intake of all nuts and seeds.

For Non-vegetarians, Fresh white meat chicken, turkey, , and seafood are acceptable. You can take eggs in your diet as they good for kapha. Avoid red meat like beef.

Limit consumption  of fats and oils. Try  olive oil, ghee, almond oil, sunflower oil, mustard oil,

Favor barley, millet, buck wheat, com  rye in grains. Reduce intake of oats, wheat and rice.

Recommended pattern for taking food

Kapha diet in general  should be  full of energy and lively to help spark the digestive and metabolic systems. Eat your largest meal at breakfast and a smaller meal at dinnertime. Take your dinner as early as possible. This improves the digestion of the food. Avoid taking daytime naps.
